Day 001 - Bellingham to Port Angeles

Today was our first day on the road.  We spent the morning packing up.  It was a miracle that everything fit!  I don't know how long we will be on the road and I tried to plan for all possibilities. Plus I will be working and the kids still have their schooling to do, so there are those supplies.

We left the loft and made it as far as Bellingham.  We decided to spend a couple hours jumping with cousins at Summit Trampoline Park.  

After jumping we stopped at the Bagelry for a dozen bagels before hitting the road.  

We headed south on I-5 and then went west, over Deception Pass (which was amazingly beautiful!) and then down to Coupville to catch the ferry over to Port Angeles.  

When I was in middle school one of the science teachers had sand that he had collected from all over the world.  This stuck with me and I have a collection started in a box somewhere.  I'm looking forward to adding more samples from this trip.  Cooper helped me get our first sample.  He also buried a duck for someone to find.

While waiting for the ferry we found a picture on a board of Bapa's favorite bird!  A heron!!

Maria did not like it when I drove onto the ferry.  Then she didn't want to get out of the car and go up to the mezzanine.  But she did, and she enjoyed it.  She and Cooper chased the waves.  It was pretty windy and I my hat is now sleeping with the fish. 

We checked out historic Port Townsend and went into a cool bookstore and the local mercantile.  The bookstore was in a beautiful old building and I would have loved to have an apartment above it.  We got mini-buttons for our backpacks.  Maria got a bow and arrow and Cooper and I both got sasquatches.

Maria did NOT get car sick, but it was touch and go for a bit on the windy roads.  The drive was beautiful.  The weather was great.  

For dinner we had salad and bread.  It was delicious.  Tonight we are going to watch a movie and have popcorn.  Maria has requested Percy Jackson... and because we are on the Olympic Peninsula I have acquiesced her request.


Cooper:

Today was okay.  We went to two places where we got a souvenir.  A book shop and a general store.  We went on a ferry.  The ferry was fun.  It was really windy on the ferry.  


Maria:

Today we went on a ferry. The ferry was rocking a lot. I was glad when it was over. We also went to a book store and it had the last Hunger games book 'MOCKINGJAY'. Just letting you know that I brought 'CATCHING FIRE' with me. (: hehe:) . After the book store we went to a Mercantile and I almost spent all my savings on a sweatshirt (It was thirty dollars) so I decided to buy something cheaper. After that we went to a hotel to get signed in and, then went to get food, then we went back to the hotel and ate dinner while we watched nickelodeon.

Day 002 - Port Angeles to Aberdeen

Woke up this morning to a beautiful day. We busted out our electric frying pan and had eggs and toast for breakfast.  I think that the electric frying pan is going to be one of the greatest way we save $$. We haven't gone out to eat yet!  We checked out of the hotel and headed to Ediz Hook Spit.  We were going to try Geocaching.... but appararently I need to figure out what its all about because we couldn't figure it out. Day 004 - Seaside to Garibaldi

Happy Monday! Today was the first day of a 'normal' day on the road. Meaning that work and school had to happen. I had a meeting with my boss this morning and we went over plans for the upcoming week. Maria and Cooper did their individual school... we have yet to do 'family school' but we did go on quite a few field trips today. After work/school and checking out of our room we headed over to the Seaside Aquarium. So much fun! They have harbor seals that have attitude. They were so great. They would slap their fins, splash the water, or point to their mouths with their flippers to show you where they wanted the little fishies thrown. There is also a couple of pools where you can touch starfish, anemonies, and sand dollars. I had never seen a sand dollar move before... it was pretty cool. Day 011 - Arcata to Redding

This was not a very exciting day. Work and school this morning then we packed up and checked out of the hotel. We swung by the post office and sent off a few post cards and did a small clean out of the car. It was good to vacuum it out, at least partially. We then headed out of Arcata on 299 towards Redding. And we drove and drove and drove. Stopped to go potty and then drove some more. We got to the hotel and set up to do some work. Maria discovered NaNoWriMo and is working on writing a novel. Our hotel room is a little bigger tonight which makes Cooper happy because he can use his VR without fear of hitting the walls... and with the pools closed it's good for him to have some way to get out some energy. We did that whole adult thing and got the tires rotated. Bless Les Schwab and all their tire glory! They got us in, rotated, and out in just over an hour.
