Day 002 - Port Angeles to Aberdeen
Woke up this morning to a beautiful day. We busted out our electric frying pan and had eggs and toast for breakfast.
I think that the electric frying pan is going to be one of the greatest way we save $$. We haven't gone out to eat yet!
We were going to try Geocaching.... but appararently I need to figure out what its all about because we couldn't figure it out. The spit was pretty cool though.
There was a plaque celebrating the international swim of Bert Thomas from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC. It took him 11 hours and 10 minutes to swim the 18.3 miles.
Cooper loved the waves and Maria enjoyed finding flat rocks to try and skip.... but with the waves skipping stones was hard.
I wanted to do a hike along the Spruce Railroad Trail to the Devil's Punchbowl, but the road on the north side of Crescent Lake was closed.
I went around the sign and my kids freaked, but the road really was closed so we had to turn around and come back.
We drove the south side of the lake and pulled out and some of the look outs. It is a really beautiful place.
We decided that we should go back during the hot part of summer and camp.
We went to the Hoh Rainforest next. We drove thru Forks and I giggled. Maria hasn't read the Twilight series yet, but I made a couple of references to vampires that she thought was funny.
It was raining in the rain forest.
We hiked the Hall of Mosses trail, but had to turn around and come back...
I think we were over halfway thru the trail when there was an elk (a BIG boy) blocking the trail just eating the trees.
We waited to see if he would move, but he just went from one tree to another. The rainforest was beautiful.
It is possible to camp there... but it's a little damp so I don't think we will.
We continued driving and there are a few spots where 101 cruises down the coast and you get a glimpse of the ocean. That was pretty cool. I'm excited for the warmer weather and my kids getting to play a little bit more in the waves.
Cooper:
today we went on a hike and saw a elk and i took a pic.there where about 40 pepole there most of them where realy nice some where just frendly
Maria: Today we wnt to cresent lake and Mom told me that it is taller than two Seattle space needles deep. We also went for a hike and saw four Elk and one of them was agresseve so the trail was closed off, but we got to see the Elk before that. After that we went to the hotel. When we were in the car we were lisening to music and there was a song that came on and it was a Micheal Jackson song and i think it was called 'Yeah yeah' and i swear it had a sentence that said "YOU'RE A VEGETABLE" I swear!
