Day 003 - Aberdeen to Seaside

Happy Mother's Day to Me! and my mom, and my sister, and my sisters-in-law, and my female friends, and.... and.... and... etc. We got up this morning, got ready and headed to church.
One of the best things about being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that it is a worldwide church and everywhere you go it is the same. It's super lovely because something that eases Maria's anxiety is familiar things. (Maria: While at church someone sneezed and the man conducting the meeting said 'Bless you.' Maria thought it was super funny!) After church we filled up with gas and while we were filling up I got a phone call from the Hotel... a tablet was left behind. I'm so glad that we went to church and hadn't been on the road for 2 hours. We hung out in Westport for a bit. We climbed the Wesport Viewing Tower.
Cooper wanted to play in the ocean, but I think I've convinced him to wait a bit...
it was only 58 degrees out today, and with the wind I was starting to get itchy (cold uticaria is a side effect of the wasp stings from my incident with the wasps nest last fall).
We then took highway 101 down the coast to Seaside. It was a long day of driving. Maria said "When we are done this trip I'm never getting in a car again!" I played "So Long Astoria" by the Ataris for my kids when we were driving on the bridge over the Columbia River into Astoria.
Driving over the bridge was a little unnerving. I'm not a huge fan of heights. We passed thru a tunnel just before we got to the bridge and I taught my kids about holding their breath in tunnels, which didn't make any sense to Maria. She and Cooper then proceeded to hold their breath over the bridge. I abstained because I didn't want to pass out from lack of oxygen. Seaside seems to be a cute little town. We will explore a little more tomorrow.
We're going to have an early night tonight... tomorrow is our first day of school/work on the road! Cooper: Today was the first time he asked "Are we there yet?" Maria: She busted out the cross stitiching supplies (because we're cool like that and bring cross stitching stuff on our road trips!) and we started making up a pattern for her to work on.

Day 002 - Port Angeles to Aberdeen

Woke up this morning to a beautiful day. We busted out our electric frying pan and had eggs and toast for breakfast.  I think that the electric frying pan is going to be one of the greatest way we save $$. We haven't gone out to eat yet!  We checked out of the hotel and headed to Ediz Hook Spit.  We were going to try Geocaching.... but appararently I need to figure out what its all about because we couldn't figure it out. The spit was pretty cool though.  There was a plaque celebrating the international swim of Bert Thomas from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC. It took him 11 hours and 10 minutes to swim the 18.3 miles.  Cooper loved the waves and Maria enjoyed finding flat rocks to try and skip.... but with the waves skipping stones was hard.  We then went to Crescent Lake... and things didn't go as planned.   I wanted to do a hike along the Spruce Railroad Trail to the Devil's Pu...

Day 023 - Mesa Verde - Maria

     A few days ago we went to Mesa Verde. Mesa Verde Is a historic site. It is a cliff that has lots of little to big buildings. I think that their windows are very square. They used every single rock they could find. The rocks from big to medium to small to pebbles. They had to climb down off the cliff to get to the buildings.     Some of the buildings have most of the walls but some of them have just one. We also went into a building that has sort of like a skeleton/ base of the house. They had to climb down into the top of the house by a latter.      We listened to a self guided audio tour that said “I can Imagine people partying, dancing, playing music” and I tried to Imagine it. I Imagined that it was in a parlor sort of place. The entire thing took about 45 minutes to an hour. I think Mesa Verde was a really cool experience.

Day 004 - Seaside to Garibaldi

Happy Monday! Today was the first day of a 'normal' day on the road. Meaning that work and school had to happen. I had a meeting with my boss this morning and we went over plans for the upcoming week. Maria and Cooper did their individual school... we have yet to do 'family school' but we did go on quite a few field trips today. After work/school and checking out of our room we headed over to the Seaside Aquarium. So much fun! They have harbor seals that have attitude. They were so great. They would slap their fins, splash the water, or point to their mouths with their flippers to show you where they wanted the little fishies thrown. There is also a couple of pools where you can touch starfish, anemonies, and sand dollars. I had never seen a sand dollar move before... it was pretty cool. I remember when I was a kid we went somewhere and there was a pool where we could touch sea animals and I rem...
